Most UTV slot-canyon tours east of Zion are a ride with a short walk, not canyoneering: no harness, no rappels. For that, East Zion Adventures’ 2-hour trip from Orderville is the one to book, from US$129 a person (checked November 2026): a UTV out to a red-rock slot canyon and a guided walk between walls more than 100 feet high. The walk-in trips
East Zion Adventures' trip rides a customised off-road UTV to a slot canyon far from any paved road, then walks through it, between walls more than 100 feet high and 6 to 10 feet apart, while the guide talks about Native American history and the rock. The walk loops back to the vehicle. It is graded easy and does not include any climbing. It is not for children under 4, pregnant women, or people with back, heart or other medical conditions, and it may not run in severe weather.
ROAM - East Zion's UTV tour spends most of its 2 hours in Can-Am Defenders driven by the guides, with stops at Upper and Lower Red Cave slot canyons and about a quarter mile of walking. It is suitable for all fitness levels, meets at ROAM’s storefront off US 89 next to East Zion Resort, and leaves without anyone more than 15 minutes late.
The trips that add rappels
ROAM’s 2.5-hour and 4-hour trips use the UTV to reach Coal Hollow slot canyon, then a steep half-mile hike, then 4 or 6 to 7 rappels, mostly in Ladder Canyon beside Sugar Knoll. East Zion Adventures’ Elkheart trip rides out by off-road vehicle and adds three rappels. Half day or full day compares every rappelling trip by length.

In the cold months
On East Zion Adventures’ trip, come ready for cold weather in fall and winter, and bring water: food and drinks are not included. ROAM keeps Mountain Time, which it describes as an hour different from Las Vegas and Arizona. Wear hiking shoes for sand and rock.
